Peachy
I’m writing this column shortly before the start of Bavarian Night at Mt. Ashland. I had the good fortune to be in Bavaria for Oktoberfest, and I’d like to share that experience with you. For those of you who don’t know, Oktoberfest is a 16-day festival held annually in Munich, which runs from late September to early October and millions of people attend each year.
My trip to Oktoberfest started early in the morning, because my group had to take about five different regional trains to make it to Munich by noon. When we arrived in Munich, we didn’t have the tickets needed to get into the tents, but it didn’t matter. There was more than enough going on outside the tents. There were carnival rides, food booths, music, and of course, lots and lots of beer. We spent the first two hours just walking around dumbstruck. To this day I have never seen anything quite like it. At the end of the day we sat down and had a beer to mark the experience, before we started the five-train ride back to our original town.
The point of my column today is this: I had no idea what to expect when I boarded that train, but I had good friends for company and enough money for the ticket, so I went. It turned out to be an amazing experience. I have no idea what to expect for tonight, Bavarian Night, but I’m going.
Don’t fear the unknown, when the opportunity, any opportunity, appears, seize it. Sometimes all you need is good company and the price of the ticket.
