“Shutter Island” is one of those movies that has way too much fun playing with your head, and does it with a level of technical expertise and precision that you allow it to do just that. Martin Scorsese generally does not make the movies that a more experimental director, like David Lynch (“Mulholland Drive”) or David Fincher (“Fight Club”) might, but here he shows he has an uncanny ability to suck his audience into the film and be entertained by its mysterious and deceptive qualities for its entire length, and possibly by the end be asking for more.
