After watching Northwest University jump to a commanding 22-8 run, the Southern Oregon men’s basketball team was unable to cope with their opponents aggressive style to fall 90-82 this past Friday at McNeal Pavilion.

The Raiders looked unsure, choppy, and frustrated as they seemed to lack the fluidity to keep up with the game.

Despite shooting 28 percent on 10-35 from the field, the Raiders were able to get to line where they connected on 92 percent of their first half free throws quickly making the score 23-24 with the Raiders down by one.

The Eagles didn’t seem phased until a huge three pointer by Joe White kept the score close at 33-31 in the Eagles favor. Ryan Staker, who has been playing exceptional basketball all season, banked in a left-handed layup while being fouled on the shot. After sinking the free throw the Raiders went into the half leading 33-31.

The beginning of the second half played more into the Raiders favor. After a number of lead changes the Raiders led 48-46 with just over 20 minutes left in the game.

Just as the Raiders started to enjoy some breathing room the Eagles took off and not even the toughest of defenses could stop the Eagles from shooting 65 percent of their field goals in the second half.

Six second half Raider three pointers helped to cut the deficit to five with 13 seconds left to play but it wasn’t enough. The Raiders dropped the game 90-82 for their second straight loss.

Southern Oregon dropped to 11-12 overall and 3-11 in Cascade conference matches. Northwest improved 14-10 overall and 8-5 in Cascade matches.
